Great vid about the damage Toon Boom's recent pricing and AI decisions are doing to the animation community. As an avid Harmony user I felt betrayed when they went this route, and I want them to do better. The description has a template for an email to send TB about it, so let em know how you feel!

When toonboom was sold to a private equity in 2023 I called it that this would happen and that the company would surge pricing to get their investment back asap and screw us all over -_- The best case scenario might just be that another company buys it with the intention of fixing it

The selling of TB to that US based profits first tech company was the worst thing to happen to western animation in ages. I know corus needed the money badly but it really sucked for all of us.

The lack of accessible animation programs for amateurs and hobbyists in general really sucks. Apparently the industry thinks it can sustain itself entirely on people who took a full college degree on animation. I've been trying to learn Tahoma2D, but the lack of decent free tutorials is painful.

I’ve spent the last few years transitioning my workflows away from subscription softwares because the fear of things like this sits in the back of my mind. Do you think you’ll transition over to Moho or something else if Toon Boom doesn’t step back on their decisions?

Hard to say, i do have a perpetual license of Harmony 17 that I can still use, but I think it's a good move to branch out and not feel constrained to just one app. Been playing with TVPaint and enjoying it, and Moho seems worth digging into some more too. I'll def keep experimenting at least.

Ah yeah I used TvPaint way back when. I really enjoyed it, just didn’t have the money to upgrade and get more features that I needed. I should look into it again

I'm gonna cancel my subscription soon. Plus it takes too long to load for me now.

This is why I'm trying to make Clip Studio my main animation platform from now on. I will probably have to save up for their next sale to pick up the latest update, because not having audio scrubbing is actually prolonging projects more than I'd like to admit.

I use CSP for most non-animation drawing and know some folks who like using it for animating. It's not perfect but it's much more affordable than some of the competition and I enjoy using it
