I know someone who tried to get involved in local politics. They came down so hard on them they had a stroke and were forced to quit their job at the time. Yeah, no, all politicians are scum sucking bastards, all the way down.

I have nothing but contempt for libraries. They're run by petty little failed-managers who love office politics horseshit, and demand you submit to photo ID so the state can monitor all your book check-outs. Not to mention the selling out to cafe nonsense.

It's not about them, it's about sending a message to everyone else using or considering using AI. This specific person is forsaken, nothing they do can ever balance their karmic scales. The point is to make using AI, ever, as socially and professionally toxic and damning as possible.

Developers can whine about how users don't know what's best for them, but when users see FOSS developers dismiss their complaints about their UIs being clunky, all they see is snobby eltist jerks who don't care about their workflows. Thus, they will continue to pay for products that seemingly do.

I never claimed they were. Again, the fact they aren't "optimal" input methods isn't the point. The point is given the option, the average user, the people developers supposedly make software for, when presented with a obviously high friction and low friction interface, will pick low, every time.

Until FOSS design understands and accounts for users prefering the path of least obvious friction, every time, they won't be able to compete with the ruthlessly slickly designed corporate offerings.

Fair point, but they had the advantage of workplaces and schools forcing them to learn how they did things. And GUIs are more intuitive than CLI's, and touchscreen GUIs more intuitive still than that, and now voice commands even more intuitive. Regardless of how least efficient such methods are.

A couple hours (more, really, for the average user) that was not spent doing the actual task or function they wanted/needed to do in the first place. This fundamental inability of the linux desktop/foss community to "meet users where they are" are why these systems will remain niche outliers.

If something causes mass riots in cities regardless of the outcome, we generally consider that something that shouldn't have happened in the first place, given that ordinary people don't usually riot! Why is it that sport events get a collective pass on this point?!

"I’m not anti-sports" I am. I consider basically all sports that aren't predominantly rich white people blood sport, and sports in general fosters competitive mindsets; that is, there are a few winners and lots of losers, that basis is entirely on physical merit, and that's just how it is.

In a just world, the original poster would have full legal power to sue everyone involved in this debacle into destitution: A24, Kane, and the legions of talentless hacks who collectively shit in the pool after them. This is why I consider IP laws to be grotesquely lax wrt to creators' rights.

CGI was and is a plague upon the film medium, and persists solely due to soulless corporations seeking to cut costs whenever possible. I'd say it's up there with petroleum engines, atomic weapons, and personal computers as "innovations" the world would have been much better off without.

I didn't go anywhere near debate club in highschool for the same reason I don't debate now: it's a complete waste of time. This argument fails because it assumes the audience is reasonable and persuadable. They are not. They are dunderheaded dolts who if they don't know enough now they never will.
