one of the reasons i left academia was because of what i call 'the sidewalk dilemma': many profs are expert in the one square of a sidewalk that's theirs. and god forbid you—an expert in an adjacent sidewalk—touch their sidewalk. i had enough of that shit. (also, i am not smart)
