How many reports does it take before Americans stop calling this “isolated incidents” and start asking whether there’s a systemic problem? A new Human Rights Watch & ACLU report should be a five-alarm warning for anyone who cares about human rights in this country. A #SheShed 🧵

Deportation to countries of origin where the deportee is at risk of death or to an impoverished country possibly on a different continent to become forced labor is the United States' equivalent to a gas chamber solution for its concentration camps (ICE detention facilities). WAKE UP. Not my America.
The report’s based on interviews with 71 detainees & describes conditions the organizations say may amount to cruel, inhuman, & degrading treatment under international human rights standards. Read it again. These were not people with the power to walk away. They were people the government detained.
The question isn’t whether Congress should investigate. The question is why it hasn’t already. A country’s values are not tested by how it treats the people who have the most power. They are tested by what it allows to happen to the people who have none. #SheShed
