Yesterday a person was detained by ICE inside the Bridgeview Courthouse, violating a state law that bars federal agents from detaining people with civil warrants or without warrants at courthouses, according to officials. This leaves many asking, who will hold ICE accountable? And why aren’t they?
ICE agents detained a man at Bridgeview’s courthouse Wednesday, telling sheriffs they had a warrant but never showing one. Arrests on civil warrants are barred by state law at courthouses, prompting questions of if the detainment violates it — and if so, who will hold them accountable. 🧵/10
Last year during Operation Midway Blitz, an immigration agent allegedly pointed a handgun at veteran Christian Buie-Gentry’s head and said “Bang! You’re gonna die, lib.” Gentry said CPD said they couldn’t do anything Five months later, an ICE agent was charged with a similar crime… in Minnesota.
