That's 1,000% not a dig against the aerial support and ground pounders working the fire. But there aren't enough resources in the US to stop a fire that size in a place like that if the fire wants to run. Let's hope they get enough of it knocked down before conditions change for the worse again.

Want to preface this by saying that fire crews have done a great job on the Big Grass fire yesterday & today and likely prevented it from approaching Silver City. #IdahoFire But also Most of the perimeter where the fire stopped progressing is because it just stopped burning when conditions changed

No, not a new fire. The Coleman Creek Fire has been a bit more active this evening, and it's dumping smoke right at Ontario.

Barring a wind event, I think fire crews just about have the north end of the Big Grass Fire handled. This 2-day reprieve in fire behavior has been great. I think the threat to silver city is extremely low at this point. #IdahoFire

just bumping this. What I've seen yesterday and (so far) today across Idaho and Oregon are mostly fires that aren't all that motivated to burn. This will change soon, but hopefully the reprieve helps. and from what I see especially on the Big Grass fire, I think it has helped a ton. #IdahoFire

yeah... declaring a civil emergency allows the county to activate the Emergency Alert System (EAS) which then goes out via the National Weather Service (CAP feed & Weather Radio Alerts), radio/TV broadcasters, and cell phones. Nnot used often for fire, moreso in rural areas when situation critical
