Wow - the average global sea surface temperature outside of the polar regions is currently tied for the all-time absolute hottest on record (in the NOAA/OISST dataset). The record was in 2024. More graphics like this at www.climatecentral.org/climate-brie... 🌊

First hand evidence. This panorama photo was taken on July 13, 2026 at a latitude of 81.5 degrees North, looking northward. Open water with patchy sea ice less than 600 statute miles from the North Pole. We turned here and headed SE back to the Svalbard archipelago. #ClimateChange #ArcticWarming
