Critical histories of science and medicine, science studies, postcolonial endeavours. New book on modern excrementalities: Spectacles of Waste (Polity). Writing mostly on disease ecologies and planetary health now. Living on Wangal country.

Delighted that Spectacles of Waste is now available in Korean, translated by Jongsik Yi and Jungha Hwang. No idea how they coped with the puns and wordplay. @politybooks.bsky.social #STS @aussts.bsky.social @sydsts.bsky.social

Andy Lakoff died far too young. Terrible news. A brilliant scholar and a lovely man, we were lucky to have him in the world. I knew him more than 20 years and learned so much. Last year in Sydney he was so full of life, inspiring. How sad it is #sts #anthro

Sad to learn of the death of Carlo Ginzburg, a brilliant historian. His microhistories, with their redistribution of intellectual agency, are a continuing inspiration. I could not have written The Collectors of Lost Souls without their guidance...

So sad to learn of the death of the great Abdullah Ibrahim, such a brilliant politically committed musician. For me, his music conjures Melbourne in the late 1970s, early 1980s, strangely. A sound track to those times for some of us.
