"I dunno The Knight being Dess just seems way too obvious to me there's no way that's the case" Would people say this about the Masked Man being Claus? "I'm pretty sure the references to Gaster aren't actually important and he won't be involved" Would people say this about Porky?

Anyway "Would people act like this if Mother 3 was released episodically?" continues to be my favorite question to ask when I see shit like this.

I think the funniest part of it all, other than the sheer contrast between like, people reblogging posts about The Death of Media Literacy while also patting themselves on the back for only engaging with Deltarune on the surface level, is how backhanded towards Toby Fox it all comes across?

120

i no shit saw someone say, in response to someone pointing out "hey wait a minute i think implying gaster isn't part of deltarune's narrative is maybe an overcorrection," that "we don't know for sure that wingdings has to do with gaster." ..........

130

...but that's a separate essay continue on with the Macbeth essay

010

I was talking about this with friends the other day in that like, I think something that makes Deltarune distinctly feel a bit more Mother 2 than 3 is how so much of its story revolves around the adults in these kids' lives being untrustworthy, either neglecting or just USING them.

110

I'd also honestly say it's more Mother 2 than it is 3, arguably a little Mother 1 too. Toby Fox loves the whole damn series as a package and it shows.

110

And yes, that does mean alluding to grooming and sexual assault! Deltarune has so fucking muuuuch to say about Gender and I'm sick of people pretending it doesn't!

010

Anyway, my main point here is... yeah, it makes you uncomfortable probably, but that's the exact thing! Toby Fox is making a point about the way children in particular, seen as second-class citizens by society, ignored by adults, are so often exploited under the cisheteronormative patriarchy!

110

All of this is, of course, also because Toby Fox, taking inspiration from the Mother series, is one of the few fucking people on this planet who understands that Earthbound is, among other things, about the ways children are treated as expendable by adults.

Of course, being put in the role of "Woman" does also play a part in why Kris must be assigned "Man" in this allegory. She can't be a lesbian under cishetero patriarchy, that's not the role Women play. And neither teenager *really* wants this, but do any of the adults in their lives care? No.

110

(To be clear, yes, Kris is non-binary, and goes by they/them. I hope that me putting "him" in quotations makes it clear that this is just the role being forced upon them in the WR, which is also so, so, SO fucked up since the Mancountry thing in Ch3 all but confirms Kris was CAMAB.)

110

Like, at the end of the day, the Weird Route is all about forcing cisheteronormativity onto Kris and Noelle. Kris is being reassigned the role of "Man" and to that end Noelle is now "his" "Woman." This being forced upon them is something the adults in their lives, particularly Carol, ENCOURAGE.

110

Like come the fuck on even after the imagery was changed in the Ch4 Weird Route scene, what other way am I supposed to interpret that shit? No, I don't think Kris is Literally Raping Noelle there, but I think it's ridiculous to deny that this is what the scene alludes to.
