Policy director~professor~utility infielder for bodily autonomy. Roots in Ohio, branches in NM & CA. We're going to get the government out of your doctor’s office, because freedom is for every body.

This Fulbright scholar entered on a visa that can be extended. Visa holders commonly apply for extension & are permitted to work while they wait for processing, because that can take years. So imprisoning & deporting visa holders as if they are unlawfully present is…new, wrong & probably illegal.

Ameaka Fatima Nkempu, a Johns Hopkins University researcher in public health, was detained by ICE while boarding a domestic flight. She says she is Cameroonian in a Medium article that she authored. As of Thursday morning, the ICE Online Detainee Locator did not list where she was being held.

The point of 'fight' is that it embraces diverse policy positions & ideologies. If Democrats don't fight & win & use that power to fix systems so plutocrats are stopped from stealing everything that isn't nailed down & taking our jobs & farms & water for their stupid toys, policy ideas won't matter.

Josh Marshall

Among many other things this is a good illustration of the necessity of untethering ideology and "fight" in intra-Democratic battles. The party is very united on fight, very divided on ideology. You unite on fight, let different constituencies/states find their center of gravity on ideology.

Keep yelling at them in the morning. They can become yet more demoralized by Americans responding to their incompetent unqualified appointments by reminding them who the boss is. It's not Donald.

There it is. Todd Blanche's Senate committee vote is postponed.

If you fear it might not make a difference to yell at your local governments about data centers, this suggests you do it anyway. Data centers are a local issue that people across ideological differences hate! Don’t audit their reasons why, organize them on this shared issue. This is how we win.

Andrea Pitzer

I wrote about how protests in Albania and India reveal the ways smaller, specific grievances can come to symbolize and fuel larger movements.

OK, we're NIMBYs, whose backyard should data centers go in? No jobs after servers are installed, built ahead of power generation capacity, using diesel generators 24/7. This hurts people who live nearby; noise & air pollution affect school & work performance as well as health. So: whose backyard? /1

Dave Karpf

"Everybody deserves a say in the future of AI. We don’t have to resort to NIMBYism and questionable environmental arguments to get it. Even if one community succeeds in keeping the data centers out, another community will let them in." TRANSLATION: the datacenter backlash is working. Please stop.
