Never forget, you can double the number of people in a pedestrian street or people-place in two different ways — by doubling the number of people who come (which is harder), or by doubling the length of time that people stay (easier, but we too often get this wrong). Make streets magnetic places.

Last week, Ken Sim's ABC approved a motion that would slam the door on vital health services that save lives, connect people to care, and provide treatment for drug addiction. I'm deeply concerned that this will create barriers to offering harm reduction services that cannot be overcome.

Data centers are unique compared to other industrial uses, especially in urban centres like are being proposed. Understanding impacts on noise, water, energy usage, and community benefits is important, as is making good decisions with a high degree of public confidence.

I’m moving a motion to do that this week. So that communities have options despite cuts to cooling kits.

So what can we do to better prepare these neighbourhoods for dangerous heat? Increase tree canopy cover in the long term, yes. But temporarily, we can support communities in installing temporary canopies for shade!

Did you know East and South Vancouver have less tree canopy than the rest of Vancouver? And why does it matter? Shade in urban areas is one of the most effective ways to reduce the impacts of dangerous heat.
