yeah possibly but it hits different when you're literally 800 kilometers from the next town, and a flight home would take 24 hours

yeah this is why i could never live there. i grew up abroad and never really had a home but i've never felt further from 'home' than when i was in Australia

it was also liberating being in the outback without internet for 6 months. Europe basically doesn't exist when you're there. all of the pathetic trivial stuff we go on about here just doesn't exist there. somehow i found that very freeing

if you ever want to feel completely out of your depth as a European, go to small-town Australia, or even worse, the outback

the next day a bogan (self-identified, not a slur) friend of the boss just went in there and got the spider out without any issue

we stayed in their guesthouse and one night i opened a cupboard in our bedroom only to find a giant huntsman spider in there. i'm too european to deal with gigantic 8 inch wide spiders so i just closed the door and said it'll be okay. my ex didn't sleep all night
