40 years ago today, Ganbare Goemon was released on the Famicom; this was already the second instalment in the series following Mr Goemon (released in May 1986 for the arcade and presumably developed in parallel). Both games were illustrated by Shigeru Okawa / 大河繁. vgdensetsu.net/shigeruokawa/

For those unfamiliar with the history of Seiken Densetsu, the game released on the Game Boy in 1991 (also known as Final Fantasy Adventure / Mystic Quest) is actually the third project developed by Square to bear that name; before that, there was: _a 3D dungeon RPG co-developed with Bits, ... 1/2
VGDensetsuHitomichi Tanaka cites The Eidolon as a source of inspiration for the 3D dungeons in his cancelled version of Seiken Densetsu (Famicom). Yuji Naka, for his part, mentioned a Commodore 64 game with 3D dungeons as an inspiration for Phantasy Star, and it is likely that this is the same game.

Over a year ago, we built a prototype for a new Myst Universe game meant for publisher eyes only. This project is NOT in active development, but we're proud of the work the team did, and wanted to share it with you all. Presenting: Project Anglerfish. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZvNGt02yZNc
