This work goes back now more than a decade. In 2011/2012, when some were screaming “critical whiteness” in full swing, we were trying to figure out the possibilities of anti-racist solidarities and political urban blackness. It was before the murder of Trayvon Martin, /1

Rest in Power, Christy Schwundeck. Murdered by the German state on May 19, 2011, but never forgotten! The murder of Christy and the struggle for justice politicized many (long before 2013) in the struggle against state violence and its connection to criminalization of migration & poverty.

Congratulations Anthony! 📕🎵 Everyone who wants to read a splendid analysis of abolition in the making by black leftists in the 1930s in the US (like Du Bois, Richard Wright, Marvel Cooke, William L. Patterson, Louise Thompson, and Langston Hughes) should read this book!

@danielloick.bsky.social and I wrote a thing: "Surplus Fascism: Reflections on Current Tendencies of Abandonment in Germany and Beyond", for a SI in New German Critique. @robin-c.bsky.social and H. Kundnani also contributed some really good pieces, among others! read.dukeupress.edu/new-german-c...

Posting this gem by RWG on post-Keynesian militarism, crisis & surplus as a reminder, as it seems that some folks still do not understand what abolition is actually about (e.g. heard a convo where someone said that abolition is about abolishing "things"): journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/...

Danielle Araújo & Silvia Rodríguez invited us to be part of a symposium on anti-black violence in 2022, while there was some delay, I am so grateful that all the great pieces are now out in the world with antipode, including my piece on policing, un-breathing & black geographies in europe (oa).

"Invoking the Insurrection Act would not, however, be a flip switch moving us from a functional democracy into fascism; rather,it would be an expansion of already existent fascist action . It’s tempting to urge protesters to avoid giving Trump a pretext for escalation. That would be a grave mistake."
