NEW: DHS' top number-cruncher just left the department -- and blasted the administration's "war on immigrants" on the way out. He's one of the very few DHS officials to step down and speak out publicly against this White House. Me in @wired.com ... www.wired.com/story/dhs-of...

Exclusive: Officials who separated Pete Buttigieg from his young twins last month relied on a vague and unsubstantiated allegation from an accuser authorities later deemed possibly “mentally unstable,” according to unreported police records.

I would further recommend people listen to the second season of @vermontgmg.bsky.social’s podcast “Long Shadow” for more on the history of the far-right: longshadowpodcast.com/podcasts/ris...

Would assume everyone knows it by now, but just in case "First the traitors, then the invaders" is an explicit reference to The Turner Diaries, where a white supremacist revolution overruns "The System" and kills all their enemy during the evocatively named "Day of the Rope".

This is pretty stunning. Let me translate: A federal judge does not trust the acting AG is telling the truth—before the court, to be clear—about specific redactions, and ordered him to bring proof. Just a staggering taint on DoJ.

Katie Phang

BREAKING: In my lawsuit against Todd Blanche for the Epstein Files, Judge Sullivan has just ordered Blanche to produce, in camera (in chambers), the UNREDACTED emails & documents, and Blanche must bring documentation supporting his representations the DOJ’s redactions are what he claims they are.

If anyone from the federal government had contacted Tremont mayor Justin Moeller before ICE bought the warehouse, he could have explained that their little town simply didn’t have enough water for a detention mega-center. Instead, this happened.

How the threat of an ICE detention center galvanized a Trump-country coal town“We do deserve better than a plethora of data centers, detention centers, warehouses, biosolids processing plants, massive landfills.”www.motherjones.com

A gentle reminder. We are all birthright citizens for the law recognizes that our parents are irrelevant to the question of our status.

Mrs. Betty Bowers

Marco Rubio is against birthright citizenship. But Marco Rubio *is* a birthright citizen. Ted Cruz is against birthright citizenship. But Ted Cruz was born in Canada. He only got US citizenship by a birthright citizenship law because of his US mother. They are both shameless hypocrites.

Spoke to @zackwhittaker.com about the case of U.S. federal prosecutors going after an American for allegedly wiping his phone with a duress password during a border search. First case I've seen, though I've discussed the potential scenario with at-risk folks. techcrunch.com/2026/07/24/u...

This is all another sign of Joyce Carol Oates’ epic takedown of Elon Musk is fundamentally true. Imagine becoming a gazillionaire and not being able to appreciate that eating a perfect backyard tomato mid-summer is the peak of satisfaction and joy. Elon Musk is bankrupt of joy.

Matt Novak

Another odd moment occurred when Musk insisted that work in the future would be "optional" because robots would do everything. Musk said people might still work in the future but compared it to people who grow their own backyard tomatoes. He said they could just go to the store for better tomatoes.

One of my favorite people doing political commentary today is Greg Sargent. You should follow him, IMO. Here he examines how Susan Collins is caught in an pro-ICE quagmire of her own making.

Greg Sargent

Susan Collins voted for $70 billion in ICE funding just before an ICE agent gunned down a young immigrant father in Maine. Collins also voted against an amendment requiring bodycams. These votes will now be hung around her neck, Dems in the state tell me. New piece: newrepublic.com/article/2133...
