In Liberty County, Texas, we permanently protected 1,218 acres at Batiste Creek: forested bottomland, more than 200 acres of wetlands, and nearly 8 miles of waterways feeding Pine Island Bayou. The land is no longer in play. A new way to help is coming soon.

Right now, 90,000 acres of forested wetlands in Mississippi's Yazoo Backwater are at risk from a single Army Corps flood-control project, an area larger than the city of New Orleans. Once filled or drained, wetlands don't come back. A new way to help is coming soon.

Think your land doesn't qualify for conservation? Think again. 🌾 Many conservation nonprofits won't work with working lands, working forests, timberland, or agricultural property. The assumption is that conservation is only for pristine wilderness. We see it differently.

From the Field Friday 🌿 30 acres can go a long way when it comes to saving a species. Mudhoney covers just over 30 acres of North Carolina landscape now being transformed into a thriving Piedmont Alluvial Forest.

By the EPA’s own estimate, up to 63% of U.S. wetlands could lose federal protection under the narrowed Clean Water Act. That is nearly two-thirds of the places that filter our water and soften floods. A new way to help save them is coming soon.

Dispatch from the Piedmont 🌿 When everything that can go wrong does, it at least happens against a stunningly green backdrop. Our team spent the day navigating the lush landscapes of Cape Fear Dairyland proving that even a chaotic itinerary is better with a view.

What does it take to deliver a complex conservation win? 🌿 Boiling Spring Wilderness is a good answer. This 1,040-acre project completes a missing link between two already-conserved areas, helping form a more continuous 10,000-acre protected landscape in fast-growing Brunswick County.

A legacy for generations. 🌿 Massey Chapel is about more than protecting habitat, it's about protecting a community's story. The land traces back to Harvey Carlton, who bought property here in 1878, and whose family farmed it for decades.

From the Field Friday 🌿 Spring has sprung in Catawba County and the field season is off to a wild start. Our latest monitoring visit took us to Dogtown (Duke portion), where the scenery was beautiful and the wildlife was… camera-shy. But the real star is the conservation impact:

"Where does conservation funding actually come from? 🌿 We believe transparency builds trust. So here's an honest look at the mix that funds our work: grants, mitigation partnerships, and individual giving. Each matters, but they don't all work the same way.

"Signing a conservation easement isn't the finish line. It's the starting point. 🌱 Once land is protected, the real long-term work begins: monitoring properties, upholding every agreement, and defending easements if they're ever challenged. That work doesn't fund itself and it never stops.
