Had an amazing Gen Con Day Two and I'm exhausted.

Purely by coincidence, I finished this book today. You'll like it if you like dark fairy tales...not dark like "brooding morally-gray fae prince," but dark like the old stories, the cautionary tales where terrible, unspeakable things happened to those who strayed too far from the path. I loved it.

Today's to-do list: - Try to work (lol) - Laundry - Last-minute mini painting - Try on a dozen outfits and leave clothes strewn around the bedroom to deal with when I get back - Pack - Double-check I packed everything - Check again - Inevitably forget something despite checking a third time - Sleep

Driving to Gen Con sucks because that's like 9+ hours in the car, but it means I get to catch up on podcasts and have long stretches of "nothing to do except listen to music and let my mind wander" which is an important part of my writing process I lost when I switched to fulltime WFH.

So @mimimerlot.bsky.social introduced me to the concept of the Sea Peoples in tonight's D&D game and now I'm fascinated.

I'm still sad that D&D 5.5e got rid of the personality trait/flaw/etc tables in Backgrounds. I've never been a the type of player with tons of concepts on the back burner. I always build each character for the campaign, so that's where a character went from "species/class" to a character for me.

I think when he said "high fantasy" he meant more a "traditional" D&D setting, if that makes sense? No Ravenloft, no Spelljammer, no Feywild, no pirate nonsense...just goblins and dragons and rust monsters and mimics and quests.

My son (20 y.o.) is gearing up to run a D&D campaign soon, and his friends want to play a classic high fantasy game. What's your favorite module that would fit that bill? He hasn't run a ton so anything that requires a bunch of tweaking/homebrewing is probably not ideal.
