Hi there! I'm someone who likes to make niche TTRPGs and discuss the hobby in general. You can check out my games here: https://www.drivethrurpg.com/en/publisher/13702/ultimate-hyper-games

Not a #TTRPG, but this could be a pretty fun dice game. Criminal Masterminds - A Dice Jail Game To play this game, you will need 1d20 per player and about 5 each of d4s, d6s, d8s, d10s, and d12s per player. 1/1

Has any TTRPG turned "dice jail" rituals into an actual mechanic? Like, depriving players of specific dice due to their in-game actions?

And what a capstone for a multi year long campaign can the epic destinies be! Only issue is that it takes so long to get to that point, so it feels like a once-a-lifetime thing to have a group do it. A lot of great suggestions for other games that do something like that in the thread too.

D&D4 had the epic destiny Last Hurrah series: at level cap, you help your friends tie up the last loose ends in their stories and they help you and then after that, congratulations, you closed the book! You exit the story! Various and sundry PbtA and BoB games have "exit the story" in playbooks!

I feel like I'm in this weird middle-ground between being a part of a "tradition" philosophy wherein I spend very little money on the hobby, yet spend hundreds of hours playing and running games and a hobby business where I make new games for others. 1/3

Badly promote your TTRPG: You're a magical girl, but getting a bad grade in your science class might ruin your mood and make you worse off in a fight. Some bad guys also can hurt your feelings by telepathically saying mean things to you.

Badly promote your TTRPG: You know how there are like 100 fantasy PBTA games out there… well this is another one!

Definitely not going to have anything finished this month! Got a lot of puzzle pieces trying to figure out how they are going to fit together to make what I'm working on shine, but I'll get there, eventually.

It's Friday, so let's celebrate works in progress. 🎉 What's one TTRPG project you're hoping to finish this month? Drop it in the comments - we're excited to see what's coming to the community.

I was thinking about mechanics in "traditional" #TTRPGs that allow you to succeed when it would have been a failure (like D&D's "Succeed at a Cost") and tiered successes such as partial success, full success, and critical success. 1/3

I've been under the impression that crunch is rules/mechanics and is contrasted with fluff which is "flavor text". A game with more crunch has more rules, and usually is more stimulationist and/or focused on combat/skirmishes. Some people like crunch and some don't, but it's not a bad thing, right?

Does a 'crunchy' game stop being crunchy if the crunchy parts are relatively streamlined and not that hard to learn? I've heard chatter from fans and haters alike that Lancer for instance "isn't that crunchy," which makes me wonder if people are using the word like it's exclusively a bad thing.

I liked this breakdown of a way to design weapons in #TTRPGs. #TTRPG, #TTRPGdesign

The Verve

It might sound simple but "How many weapons does a TTRPG need?" takes us on an interesting deep dive into game design. My latest video: youtu.be/U091PMRx9Cw
