I'm wondering, what kind of audience did you have for this? How big? Is this for some specific major(s), or is this something more general (was the audience very varied)? At least there were students from different levels of studies, right? (It's a challenge if the audience is very varied, I feel.)

Well yea, I managed to have a look at the syllabus - much clearer now! It is indeed about scientific communication: "we will study scientific communication from the lens of philosophy". Looks good & consistent. Some of this stuff could be useful in more traditional phil of sci courses too.

The course was called "Philosophy of Scientific Communication". That led me into thinking this is about communication; that this is a course on communication of science. I'm not sure what this would entail - hence my queries - but it sounds something different to philosophy of science.

Ach so. I was wondering if there was some special angle that "communication" was bringing in.

Hmm, "communication allows accessible entry points into...", but philosophy of science does not? Not trying to criticise this or anything; just trying to put my finger on the difference. (And l'm still in the process of checking the syllabus.)

How does Philosophy of Scientific Communication relate to Philosophy of Science? (Need to dig into your syllabus in a bit, once I get to my laptop.)

Niin.. en oikein tiedä, miten kalabaliikkiin pitäisi suhtautua. Tietysti on niin, että ministeriöiden rahulit on poliittisessa ohjauksessa. Eihän tällaiset mielivaltaiset päätökset tietenkään fiksuja ole. Mutta onko kyse laittomuudesta? Ja miten tällaista toimintaa tulisi normittaa?

"Miksi päättäjät ja virkamiehet tarttuvat näihin yksinkertaisiin tekoälytarinoihin?" Poliitikkojen ja virkamiesten ymmärryksen taso on kyllä järkyttävän alhainen. Mistä muutos? En tiedä. Mutta ehkä mediakin voisi tsempata - sivistää ensin itseään ja kysyä sitten tiukempia kysymyksiä.

As stated in the article, these systems (we should not call them "AI") seem to be useful in limited contexts, like AlphaFold in predicting protein structure (though there are debates/limitations to this too). In other words, if the domain is specific enough, *we can get useful results with them.
