It didn’t seem cozy to me, that fantasy. It just felt sad. Like, it took someone pointing out that this was basically nostalgia for the comparatively optimistic vibe of the 90s for me to see how this read as cozy at all. And like, goddamn, that about nails it, doesn’t it? It’s just sad nostalgia

12 - I really liked Macbeth and Julius Caesar. I also liked Wilkie Collins’ The Woman in White and Thomas Hardy’s The Mayor of Casterbridge. I do not remember high school too well, so those are the only things I can call to mind.

11 - any scholarship about Beowulf, feminist studies of the Middle Ages, feminist theory, Paleolithic anthropology, that sort of stuff

7 - little golden books, probably? My parents read to me a lot from a young age and I loved it and memorized Dopey Gets Lost when I was very small, and that was really the beginning of it all

6 - this has been a very stressful month because I have no income and am struggling, so the only thing I’ve read has been @mariadahvana.bsky.social’s translation of Beowulf (you’ll see why I refreshed on Beowulf tomorrow). Good opportunity for a plug. If you want me less stressed and reading more

5 - i love secondhand bookstores and independent bookstores, and will prefer to buy from those if possible
