I remember when Mad Max Fury Road came out, George Miller got a lot of praise for not lingering on depictions of sexual violence and trusting viewers to know what had happened without fostering a voyeuristic gaze. This was my experience of The Odyssey’s relationship to gendered violence as well.

the violence of the sack of Troy is sanitized as this author describes. we do however see Odysseus and his men pillage and burn though, which is also addressed (with a lil euphemism here and there) in the narration if I remember right. so I didn't come away from the scene thinking Circe was nuts
