Explained on @AJEnglish that as long as the parties seek to negotiate while simultaneously shaping the diplomatic landscape through military means, then talks will not succeed. Iran will likely seek to impose such a high cost on the US that Trump won't be tempted to return to military action again.

Told @AJEnglish that Iran is unlikely to accept Qatar's 10-day ceasefire proposal. Tehran will likely see it as an effort to calm energy markets, only for the US to restart attacks in 10 days. And then repeat this cycle in another month or so.

The White House believes military action will soften Iran and compel it to give up its leverage (the Strait) In reality, the more the US is willing to bomb Iran to control the Strait, the more it convinces Iran that it must control the Strait to defeat American military plans.
