Tip that could maybe save a life: If you can't find a doctor with a particular specialty who's taking new patients, go to your local undocumented immigrant community and talk to them. You will find the best doctor you've ever seen; they do not take insurance but their prices will be reasonable.

Okay but how do you actually convince a healthcare provider to prescribe something that would enable you to schedule an appointment to get the diagnosis in the first place?

I was well into my 30's when I first learned that vanilla is a flavor. I thought it was some fancy culinary term for "unflavored."

The protagonists of Rent insist on their right to squat for free in an Alphabet City warehouse; dine and dash from a local independent restaurant; MURDER A PUPPY FOR MONEY; and the antagonist is... their old roommate, because he got a job.

Name a villain who was actually right.

You know what AI should be theoretically capable of doing that I think would be the highest and best use for the technology? Decipher the Voynich Manuscript. While they're at it, do the Phaistos Disc.

What's your personal great white whale of an unsolved mystery? The thing you desperately hope is solved before you die because you need to know the answer? Mine is the Isabella Stewart Gardener Museum heist. Where the hell are the Rembrandts. I need the full story

There's going to be a version of the PS6 that will be a handheld capable of playing at PS5 quality. This is going to be a HUGE game changer for the industry. But unless the AI bubble pops, anything with RAM and SSDs in it is going to be so expensive that casual gamers won't bother trying them.

I'm 40 and in terms of video games, not really a ball-knower anymore — what is the thing that the PS5 cannot do that the PS6 will do that will justify a $1000 upgrade?

It's my daughter's birthday today! She started special education preschool when she was 3. At that time she was non-verbal and unresponsive to stimuli. She didn't know when she was hungry or thirsty or needed a diaper change because she had to be taught to pay attention to her body. Because ADHD.

Channel 4 has announced documentary “The Great ADHD Myth?” It “seeks to determine whether ADHD is a genuine neurodevelopmental disorder, or a social construct.”

Hi, economics expert here! This is not funny, venture capitalists only do this when they’re in extreme distress.

It's my last day of having a 7-year old daughter, and, man, when they say time flies, it really really does.

The All- Time best one of these was when Jason Giambi hit one in the bottom of the 14th inning in a rain storm. He was going to be the last batter because of the rain, any other outcome and the game was over.

A fascinating object lesson in this is the career of J. Ogden Armour, who became one of the richest people in America by selling canned food to the Army during WWI; invested in packing plants and canneries as is if that demand would always be there; and lost everything, dying essentially bankrupt.

If war means everything is more expenive, why are all the companies making record profits? Seriously. This isn't even subtle in the slightest.

FUN FACT: Pursuant to CPLR § 2103(b)(5), if you include a fax number in a signature block in any paper you file in a case, that constitutes consent to service by fax of all papers in the case, and yes I've had attorneys serve discovery demands that way in the past year.

Took the family to Hershey Park for my daughter's birthday, and of course I got 3 emergency calls from 3 different Federal judges this morning. Ahh, the life in law.

Correlative but not causative change here: the decline in the need for agricultural laborers came from improvements in agricultural technology in the 17th and 18th centuries, but malnutrition globally didn't decline until the rise of canning in the 1890's and refrigerated containers in the 1960's.

"Online Rent-a-Sage" Bret Devereaux

'Malnutrition fits under famine' is very much a product of modern societies where most of the population isn't a huge class of subsistence farmers. Periods of malnutrition are *normal* for pre-modern peasant farmers, as I noted in my series on peasants.

I read about this case when it happened, and this is something that sounds so objectively insane that if there wasn't proof it happened, nobody would have believed this couple. It's worth your time to read up on.
