FFS *&*^% ... ... someone tell our PM that racism is not a game. ... and it hurts ... a lot ... Maybe if he wasn't white and so privileged he would understand. And, yes, I am angry. www.rnz.co.nz/news/politic...

So...you wouldn't remove a Foreign Minister for being a racist, but you might allow a foreign power to dictate who the Foreign Minister is? Truly courageous and pricipled leadership of a proudly independent nation!

The situation is made worse by the fact many of those being pushed out have been the real workhorses of the Tribunal - those who treat it as a full-time commitment and are the most active in both serving on multiple inquiries and working alongside staff in drafting reports.

They're definitely useful skills to have and should be part of the mix of skills in the membership, but it's concerning when all those with strong backgrounds in indigenous studies, Treaty issues, and history are getting pushed out one by one for clearly ideological reasons.

The approach seems to be to clear out all those who have expertise and have devoted their lives to these issues and largely replace them with people with generic business/governance/management skills or, in the case of Prebble, culture warriors determined to trash the institution.

bit sick of the responses, including from the Race Relations Commissioner, characterising outright unhinged racism from on high that attacks migrants' rights to political participation, as unseemly, inappropriate, bad manners, undiplomatic etc rather than fundamentally damaging to our democracy

Not to defend Melissa Derby but I went looking out of curiosity and she has given comment in this piece. But certainly I’d expect to see commentary from Tika Tangata soon. www.1news.co.nz/2026/07/30/c...

At the same time Chris Hipkins, buddy I know someone's telling you NZF are still a potential partner and it's going to lose you the damn election. Go out first thing tomorrow, absolutely torch Winston and tell the country you'll never work with him or his grubby cooker racists in any circumstance.

He cannot criticise Winston for being openly and proudly racist, the Chinese Embassy registering protest with MFAT, Shane Jones doubling down on the racism as PM because the government will fall apart. Luxon is without a doubt New Zealands weakest ever Prime Minister, a shadow of a man. Wet wipe.

I am begging a journalist to ask Luxon, on camera, why the Prime Minister refuses to condemn the racism of Winston Peters. When he says "I have criticised it" hit him with the, "not as Prime Minister, why is that?" and watch him slowly melt.

It is hard to see the government's actions as anything other than an attempt to completely hobble the Tribunal. This would fit with a broader pattern of trying to neutralise any bodies that can attempt to hold the government to account.

The Tribunal has already lost a huge amount of expertise and capacity in recent years through members not being reappointed. Many of their replacements chosen by the government have other commitments that prevent them from taking on any significant amount of Tribunal work.
