The Waitangi Tribunal's appropriately scathing report about the government's plans to strip Treaty clauses from legislation can, to some extent, be summed up as 'People titled "The Honourable" acting dishonourably' forms.justice.govt.nz/search/Docum...
Another demonstration of the pointlessness of the NZ select committee process. That this process is allowed to operate along party lines, with the govt always having a majority, makes a mockery of the role of parliamentary scrutiny in a system with no other effective check on executive power.
Dr Dean KnightWell, that’s plain wrong and a misreading of Smith v Fonterra. 🤦🏼♂️ selectcommittees.parliament.nz/v/SelectComm...
If I was Phil Goff I would be getting ready to stamp Winston Peters into a mulch given what he got sacked for compared to what Winston's pulling.
FFS *&*^% ... ... someone tell our PM that racism is not a game. ... and it hurts ... a lot ... Maybe if he wasn't white and so privileged he would understand. And, yes, I am angry. www.rnz.co.nz/news/politic...
So...you wouldn't remove a Foreign Minister for being a racist, but you might allow a foreign power to dictate who the Foreign Minister is? Truly courageous and pricipled leadership of a proudly independent nation!
bit sick of the responses, including from the Race Relations Commissioner, characterising outright unhinged racism from on high that attacks migrants' rights to political participation, as unseemly, inappropriate, bad manners, undiplomatic etc rather than fundamentally damaging to our democracy
JenniferNot to defend Melissa Derby but I went looking out of curiosity and she has given comment in this piece. But certainly I’d expect to see commentary from Tika Tangata soon. www.1news.co.nz/2026/07/30/c...
At the same time Chris Hipkins, buddy I know someone's telling you NZF are still a potential partner and it's going to lose you the damn election. Go out first thing tomorrow, absolutely torch Winston and tell the country you'll never work with him or his grubby cooker racists in any circumstance.
He cannot criticise Winston for being openly and proudly racist, the Chinese Embassy registering protest with MFAT, Shane Jones doubling down on the racism as PM because the government will fall apart. Luxon is without a doubt New Zealands weakest ever Prime Minister, a shadow of a man. Wet wipe.
I am begging a journalist to ask Luxon, on camera, why the Prime Minister refuses to condemn the racism of Winston Peters. When he says "I have criticised it" hit him with the, "not as Prime Minister, why is that?" and watch him slowly melt.
This has received little attention, but is significant news. Paul Hamer, who I think was the last remaining historian member of the Tribunal and quite possibly the Tribunal's most busy member (currently serving on 11 inquires), has not been reappointed by the government.
