In July 2016, to get the cap room to sign Durant, the Warriors had to give away Barnes, Bogut & Ezeli -- and that was with Curry set to make $12M and Draymond at $15.3M. To save the room for Curry next summer AND have enough to sign significant players, GSWs would have to offload almost everybody.

They'd have to have a TON of cap space beyond anything they'd end up paying Curry to be able to make any use of that. Like more than $110M in space. Under the CAP, not just the aprons. Essentially: have nobody under contract. Possible but not very feasible.

D. EdwardWouldn’t it make more sense to carry his cap hold into next year and use the large amount of space they’ll have? Then they can give him all the money and maybe get the pieces for a last run? Or does it not change the math much?
A few days after I wrote this, I'm more convinced that Curry & the Warriors are headed toward an extension deal before the start of the season. Will it be the max two years, just one year, or one+one? That's what negotiations are for ... and might depend on what looks possible on the horizon.

I don't think Deebo's coming back as a "wide back," in case you're wondering. He'll almost certainly be fairly set at WR. Only ran it 17 times for 75 yards and a TD in Washington last season.
