Yep. Speaking as a brit, I was really hoping that election would go the other way. I thought Harris did ok considering the giant steaming turd Biden handed her. She _really_ needed to throw him under the bus, though. It was a change election and she ran on continuity.

I don't think you can change most people's minds about anything. Change their emotions, and their minds will change to fit their feelings. Not that I know how to do that either. 🤣

And when someone's red line is "I won't vote for a genocide, even if the two options are genocide or extra genocide" then that's a hard position to argue with. It's morally principled, if not particularly tactically minded.

I agree. They weren't receptive to that argument, though. The fact that there had been no primary didn't help. They'd had no chance to have their say. No pro-Palestinian speakers at the DNC, etc. Their argument was that democrats won't listen until there are consequences for ignoring them.

I had that argument a few times. It is similar to the trolley problem. They all hated Trump and agreed he'd be worse. But voting Harris was endorsing policies (e.g. genocide) they rejected. So they do nothing and let 4 people die, instead of pull the lever and be responsible for 1 death.

One of my closest friends is a trans woman, tomorrow she marries the love of her life, a cis lesbian, in a registry office then we get to go to lunch and get pie-eyed. Sometimes I forget what a big deal it was that Ireland voted for equal marriage, then something like this reminds me. We did OK.

I can imagine! It's nothing like the same level but I wrote a series of adventures for an indie RPG company and they did art for it. It was so amazing seeing artists bringing to life scenes that I'd just imagined.

I think it is fair to say that abolishing prisons is a decent goal, while acknowledging that a lot of steps are needed to reach that goal... and for some people it may never be reached. My starting point would be with short sentences and work up from there.

This is a good reminder that some "voluntary" departures people sign while detained by ICE are the product of coercion. The worst incidents I've heard of over the years involve agents grabbing a person's hands and forcing them to sign a piece of paper they can't read; it's a "voluntary" removal.

Mark this well. A public servant who performed admirably in a crisis is being publicly persecuted, maybe prosecuted. Govt websites are being given over to propaganda. Fake medicines are being praised while lifesaving vaccines are lied about. Slanderous grifters cackle their triumph. Despicable.
