Saved all these submission opportunities going live August 1 but I’m not ready, I don’t have it together. Panicked for a second & then remembered I have written & published good things I am proud of & don’t have to break my neck to keep up.

Glad to be the steward of all this family lore I’m inheriting. People and places buzzing in my head. Grandpa and Dad feel just as young up there as they are in this photo.

Old men gathering at the pool hall next to the coffee shop this morning. The lady at the post office says she’s been in since four. The afternoon rain is in the air and on everyone’s lips.

Finding out exactly how the family lost the farm is tougher to hear than I expected. A quiet, generational trickle of acreage. Some addiction. A little nonchalance, and bam. Gone.

My friend just had her 1st baby & is at home in the stunned, anxiety, what have I done phase. She needs another world on hand. I want to send her a book, maybe in a series, that she can escape to. She likes romance and beachy reads. What should I send her?

Finally made it to the telephone museum in this little town nearby. Absolutely dying to push the buttons, especially that red one in the back.

Eating the items in my freezer to get down to reasonable again. Meals I never would have planned w tilapia, black bean burgers, gyro meat. Blueberries. Sliced almonds. Next up fish sticks.

Dad dropped off the genealogy & he’s coming back Thursday w the photos. My 10x great grandfather, per this document, was born in England in 1580 & died in Massachusetts when he was 54. His name was Nathaniel.

I might return to the National Museum of Mexican Art and take photos of everything. I’m sorry in advance. This one is haunting me. La Ofrenda by Saturnino Herrán

The corn sweats in July and releases gallons of water vapor into the air that drip down the outside of windows and make a person change their underwear twice a day. Don't come here right now. Leave us be.
