Pretty sure it’s 3x (maybe 5x at most) and there’s no way to bypass it on our firm’s system.

My work phone (an iPhone) has security software where it gets wiped if you put in the wrong password too many times (I think just 3-4x).

I don’t think it’s used much outside NYC and certain big cities in Europe so no reason you’d know it unless you live in one of those cities and either hang with rich people or are a real estate nerd!

I don’t think it’s pure hubris. A coin toss is pure luck. Some kinds of gambling (like poker and sports betting) also involve some skill, but skill and effort play a much greater role in entrepreneurship than in any kind of gambling. So some hubris is justified.

And casinos and lotteries and sportsbooks only exist because millions of people prefer the coin toss (but with WORSE odds) on a smaller scale.

This is essentially the difference between an entrepreneur and a worker. Tons of (not uber wealthy) people take out loans to start a business where they’ll be holding the bag if the business fails. They probably think their odds are better than a coin toss, but are they?

Yes. I haven’t read it but saw Aziz speak about a year ago and have seen sole of their media appearances. They are great.

Aziz Abu-Sarah. Super inspirational guy who has every reason to hate Israel and yet has dedicated himself to building bridges instead.

There’s a Palestinian peace activist I like a lot who talks about how specific solutions are totally beside the point. ANY solution (1-state, 2, a confederation, etc.) first requires everyone to trust that the other side won’t try to murder them, so trust building and humanization are the real keys.

Please think about what you’re saying. Did the live-streamed genocide from Iraq and Syria make you think less of Muslims as a group?

DEI has played a role, not because DEI is bad, but because too many DEI programs train people to divide the world into binaries of advantaged (bad) and disadvantaged (good) when the world is a lot more complex than that.

The parkways to Jones Beach were specifically designed with bridges too low for buses to pass. I thought bus service only started 10-15 years ago. Was there a bus decades ago?

Yes would love to have a gift link feature like many other paywalled periodicals.

1-2 are just dumb. 3? Fine. But didn’t need a whole article. Cornell’s “reporting bias” FAQ is clear that they don’t normally investigate bias incidents unless there was discrimination, harassment or retaliation. officeofcivilrights.cornell.edu/prohibited-b...

Your summary is more coherent than the actual article. The article says investigating would be bad because (1) Trump complicity, (2) slippery slope (can’t investigate clear antisemitism bc it might lead to investigating more borderline cases and (3) free speech.

My Chinese grad school roommate used to ask me lots of questions about how Chinese people could emulate Jews’ success in business and politics. He was shocked that my initial reaction was defensive and we had a lot of interesting discussions about the line between philosemitism and antisemitism.

As for Shmuley, he’s a clown and his politics suck. My (very Jewishly informed) politics are probably closer to yours than to his. But I see his post as a tone deaf attempt to perform Jewish pride, akin to LGBTQ pride. Not as a declaration of a desire to bring about a Jewish dominated world.

Judaism discourages conversion (because it’s a lot to take on) and has never (or at least not for a couple thousand years) been into forcible conversion. But if someone wants to be a Jew, there are clear rules for how they can be. And under Jewish law converts have totally equal status.

The traditional view of “chosen-ness” comes with obligations and benefits, of course (you follow all these rules, and God won’t destroy your crops or send more powerful armies to kill you). But it’s totally unlike a master race concept because it’s open to anyone willing to take on the obligations.
