Pra mim, também. Eu nem sou católica, mas essas campanhas tiveram um papel muito importante na minha formação na esquerda (no ano seguinte o tema foi desigualdade social). Eu me desencantei com a escola quando vi quanta homofobia tinha, mas eu guardo com carinho as boas experiências, também.

Isso me lembrou quando tinha Campanha da Fraternidade da CNBB na minha escola. Quando eu tinha uns 9 o tema era "Os encarcerados" e a gente aprendeu sobre condições nas prisões, o papel da sociedade e instituições para ressocialização. Em suma, que os presos eram basicamente pessoas que nem a gente.

Sadly I've learned that, currently, my school changed a lot of its approach and is way less progressive (for a Catholic institution) than it was.

My catholic school here in Brazil had every year the Campaign of Fraternity. When I was 9, the theme was "The incarcerated", and we learned about prison conditions, racism in arrests and that jail should be a chance to ressocialize, not just punish. That impacted me a lot in my worldview to this day

A gente tem acompanhado bem mais de perto a deterioração desse sistema e já está sentindo os impactos disso, seja nos trabalhadores demitidos, seja nas empresas que agora não dão mais conta de pagar tokens, viram perda em produtividade, etc.

Então, mas a diferença na publicização não te parece algo diferente? Na época dos subprimes, a impressão que eu tenho é que as informações tavam mais nichadas, enquanto agora tem notícia dia sim, dia tb, de corte em investimento, o tokenpocalypse, cancelamento de data center, etc.

As demissões na Microsoft parecem mostrar que o desmanche da bolha já está em curso. Acho que a grande diferença é que isso não está vindo de uma vez só, como foi 2008, mas numa deterioração gradual e constante, como estamos vendo os Estados Unidos. O país tá apodrecendo aos poucos em praça pública.

The biggest problem is the terrible precedent that this opens for this tournament and subsequent ones. Not to mention the fact that the US made a dossier on the Brazilian (latino) referee, who was doing his job (and the red card wasn't a unilateral decision, also). Imagine how's that guy's head now.

The other teams could refuse to play as an act of protest until the situation is brought back to normal, but there are too many monetary influences (mainly, the bets) to let them do it. It's a disgraceful situation, through and through. I was rooting for Mexico and Morocco, but the World Cup is over

That's not enough. It won't solve the real problem that the US gvmt interfered politically in a disciplinary measure, which is in direct violation of the FIFA regiment (with grounds to eliminate the whole US team, btw). The tournament should be suspended until the red card is reinstated.
