I don't understand why it is so hard to find the answer to "How much rain did we get yesterday?" I understand NWS is the official source but I can't figure out how to read their web pages. Where else can I look? Weather Underground said 0" which is obviously not right.

I saw today a notice that UVA is eliminating email accounts for alumni. I got a note from Duke a week or so ago doing same. So what's going on with university emails?

There are/have been traffic calming studies in #crozet where the people living on those streets say "What's taking so long? Just put in speed bumps!" I hope some of them see this video. (Although I do join in the "What's taking so long?" sentiment.)

It's my third morning in a row doing trail work. I love the look of nice wide newly mowed trail. #Crozet trails are looking good. Dry weather is helping, tbh.

I had my first cataract surgery today. I had no idea I was seeing the world thru a green-yellow filter. This means I have to start all over choosing the right white to paint my kitchen cabinets. And there's about 743 different kinds of white out there.

It's at least 30 yrs since I first went to Canada and was impressed that waiters in every restaurant bring the little machine to your table to pay instead of carrying off your credit card. Just back from a week in Ontario, and am struck at my first meal in the U.S. that we still haven't caught up.

Sunny morning! After a week of rain, I was thinking of breakfast on the deck. But at 6:30 a crew came to replace the roof of our neighbor behind us and it's loud out there.

Trying to pack for a bike tour Toronto to Montreal and my lack of weather imagination is making it impossible for me to decide what I need. Does forecast hi of 68° mean I'll be cold or warm, and for how much of the day? 73°? It's gonna be a wild guess and seesawing temps at home do not help.

Yesterday we got our first CSA batch for the season. 2 kinds of radishes (I love radishes), a basil plant (it's going into the garden), spinach, bok choy, and collards.

Staying in a hotel and asked where nearby to go for a drink. I put the suggestion into Google Maps; it is .1 mile away & the suggested walking route was about 3/4 mile. Google doesn't know there are always social paths connecting parking lots. But I'm smarter. It was less than a 3 block walk.

I sat in a blue tent at a polling place in Crozet for an hour. There was a good stream of voters coming in, including 3 or 4 register-today voters. I loved seeing the teens coming in to register and vote.

When I see "Vote Yes!" signs my brain starts singing John Adams' song from the show 1776. I'll be manning a table outside Brownsville today and trying to keep my voice down b/c no one wants to hear me singing. But anyway: Vote yes! Vote yes! Vote for independency! I say, Vote yes!

Today I went to Lesesne State Forest to see a grove of chestnut trees. I'm not posting a photo b/c if I wasn't actually looking at chestnut trees I don't want to know. I often think about how I was born too late to see the mountains covered with chestnuts, and too early to see them return.

At dinner I realized that for our bike tour that starts in Toronto and ends in Montreal, I made plane reservations to deliver us to Montreal and take us home from Toronto. That ended up being a $170 mistake but I was convinced it would be much worse.
