Would you rather be alone in the woods with a random man or a random bear? I will take the bear (Morning run on the Trans 🇨🇦 Trail, Lac du Bonnet MB. Given the 3 cubs, I turned around and walked calmly away.)

1. I stopped trusting search engines long ago. 2. Their pie is amazing. Especially strawberry pie. And the chocolate peanut butter. And the chocolate. 3. It's all good. You should go sometime. 4. And it's at the end of a good bike trail, perfect excuse for pie.
CatelliThe owner of a beloved restaurant and bakery in Millbank is doing everything she can to let people know the business is still open after a rumour spread that they would be closing for good at the end of the month. The thing is, the rumour was started by Google's AI overview.
Updates: Copper Bean Cafe and Nowhere continue to provide excellent coffee. No smoke in Ontario, but then there's Winnipeg

34 minutes with a service rep who is required to multitask across several customers at once, and I'm still not entirely sure what price I will be paying. Ugh.
Tammy Schirle 🇨🇦Figuring out the price of internet access across companies hurts my brain. The lack of transparency and the number of footnotes we allow in this industry is absolutely maddening.

I appreciate @trevortombe.bsky.social's POV, but... I tend to take a different starting point on some of this - First, he's right that mechanically, the overall (age 15+) participation rate drops when the pop ages. But it's important to point out that within age groups, people are working more

So, from my employer: All classes scheduled for tomorrow, Thursday, July 16, must be moved to a virtual synchronous format. There are no exceptions to this direction.
Just updating our road trip map... just not good.
Tammy Schirle 🇨🇦Looking for ON🇨🇦 roadtrip coffee suggestions! Our family makes this trek often enough that I've mapped out good coffee/bathroom/picnic options over the Great Lakes. But I see some have not survived. (Sorry to see you go Love, Coffee, Nipigon. Glad to see Copper Bean Cafe, Bruce Mines remains!)
Reminded me of this paper from Claudia Goldin - many reasons men and women might not be on the same page when it comes to having kids www.nber.org/papers/w35425
The seasonality of employment rates for moms with school-aged kids has always amazed me - not surprising, but it's just so easy to pick out July & August in these graphs. (I'm always reluctant to adjust monthly data for seasonality, for many reasons, but mostly there's important stories there.)
