Would you rather be alone in the woods with a random man or a random bear? I will take the bear (Morning run on the Trans 🇨🇦 Trail, Lac du Bonnet MB. Given the 3 cubs, I turned around and walked calmly away.)

So a 45km trail along a ditch is really well used. Nice ditch, Winnipeg

1. I stopped trusting search engines long ago. 2. Their pie is amazing. Especially strawberry pie. And the chocolate peanut butter. And the chocolate. 3. It's all good. You should go sometime. 4. And it's at the end of a good bike trail, perfect excuse for pie.

The owner of a beloved restaurant and bakery in Millbank is doing everything she can to let people know the business is still open after a rumour spread that they would be closing for good at the end of the month. The thing is, the rumour was started by Google's AI overview.

If you ever wanted a clear shot of Kakabeka Falls, today is the day. There is almost no one here

34 minutes with a service rep who is required to multitask across several customers at once, and I'm still not entirely sure what price I will be paying. Ugh.

Figuring out the price of internet access across companies hurts my brain. The lack of transparency and the number of footnotes we allow in this industry is absolutely maddening.

I appreciate @trevortombe.bsky.social's POV, but... I tend to take a different starting point on some of this - First, he's right that mechanically, the overall (age 15+) participation rate drops when the pop ages. But it's important to point out that within age groups, people are working more

Canada’s population is aging quickly. But that doesn’t have to slow us down. My latest for @TheHubCanada on some cool new research and what it may mean for Canada: thehub.ca/2026/07/16/... #cdnecon #cdnpoli

So, from my employer: All classes scheduled for tomorrow, Thursday, July 16, must be moved to a virtual synchronous format. There are no exceptions to this direction.

Just updating our road trip map... just not good.

Looking for ON🇨🇦 roadtrip coffee suggestions! Our family makes this trek often enough that I've mapped out good coffee/bathroom/picnic options over the Great Lakes. But I see some have not survived. (Sorry to see you go Love, Coffee, Nipigon. Glad to see Copper Bean Cafe, Bruce Mines remains!)

Checking on 🇨🇦 long-term employment rate trends for older men and women 1976-2026. Older men's employment may have levelled off the past few years, but not clearly the case for older women.

The seasonality of employment rates for moms with school-aged kids has always amazed me - not surprising, but it's just so easy to pick out July & August in these graphs. (I'm always reluctant to adjust monthly data for seasonality, for many reasons, but mostly there's important stories there.)

So I love @chapmans.ca. they're a great 🇨🇦 company and make great stuff. And on a 30 degree day I picked up one of our faves. But this is missing several scoops worth of frozen yogurt and I am VERY disappointed. Then I ate a bowl full and felt better, but still disappointed.

I often stop at historical plaques to see how they've framed the "successful" settlers. In Turkey Point? They tried, they failed, they abandoned.

I think that your actions when you see a sign like this can say a lot about the type of person you are. I had no reason to cross, but then really just had to.
