We somehow need to convince 8 billion other people to do the same. The reality is, at least 4 billion of those people also lead a simple life, to varying degrees. However, a few people running a massive industrial complex can offset all of that and then some. That needs regulation.

No, the planet is not unusually cool. The planet was unusually cool when it froze over as a giant ice ball a few hundred million years ago. We are coming off an ice age right now, and returning very rapidly to a climate where giant lizards and insects can survive, and most mammals cannot.

Realistically, the death rate will explode as more regions pass the wet bulb temperature and humidity for extended periods. It will only take an hour or so to wipe out millions without air conditioning. One power outage and it's over.
