Difficult to see how this will benefit the communities where these data centres are/will be based. Reminds me of alleged benefits of increased militarisation.

Billions of pounds of investment in artificial intelligence data centres could transform the Welsh economy over the next decade, but the rapid expansion is also set to place unprecedented demands on electricity, water supplies and the planning system wp.me/p8Mk4U-1q99

How about the private companies taking millions from the public purse pay £10000 per refugee out of their huge profits?

Zack Polanski

This is a Refugee Tax. It was originally proposed by the Tories, and the only reason asylum seekers could be claimed to 'owe' any money is because they are banned from working. Another cruel Labour policy - that must be reversed on day one by Andy Burnham. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Impact of changes is “uncertain” repeatedly. What is certain is that this Labour government has emboldened racists in a major way.

Summary of the Home Office Impact Assessment for Asylum Bill is hilarious (if it weren't so depressing). HO analysts say "basically no evidence to suggest *any* of these policies will work *even on their own terms*" (but will probably cost money). assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/6a43e1...

“defendants can no longer explain their motivations to the court. But, once the jury is dismissed, the judge can decide why they did it, and sentence them accordingly. This is not justice.”

George Monbiot

Both the government and the Court of Appeal now treat protesters as terrorists and terrorists as protesters. It's hard to accept that a "Labour" government is imposing rightwing authoritarianism on the UK, but please read this column to see what's happening.+🧵 www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

“within a more open, tolerant society, there is developing both more assertive forms of racism and deeper wells of illiberalism, including increasing state restrictions on protests and free speech.”

“The wider issues thrown up by the case should concern even those who oppose the activities of Palestine Action.” My @theobserveruk.bsky.social column: observer.co.uk/news/opinion...
