A little fun in the lab for April Fool's today, to brighten things up after a long winter. The team walked in to find brightly coloured paper cranes taking over their workspace. When do I tell them about the hidden ones? 😁

We started the year off with our lab holiday party! Always a joy to interact with this crew outside of the lab and get competitive when the board games come out 😄. Here's to a year of great research and a great team!

Congratulations Dr. Warner! The lab's first PhD defense and I could not be more proud. A first-class researcher, and highly valued lab mate who has passed on her knowledge to our newer people. Thank-you for taking a risk on a new PI and I wish you all the best in your next adventure!

Walked across campus this morning and enjoyed the hard work of @mcmasteruniversity.bsky.social groundskeeping and landscaping crew that brings us these visuals every spring!

Had the honour of seeing @msmacrophage.bsky.social perform this at #hamiltonfringe last year and it was outstanding! Hilarious, educational, and a masterclass in communicating science to everyone! Definitely go see if you can.

Fantastic visit from Dr. M. Junop @westernu.bsky.social here @mcmasteruniversity.bsky.social. Even better - a mini grad school reunion. Not only did I learn how to be a scientist from him, but how to run a lab with kindness, empathy, and to provide a safe space to learn from failure.

Extremely concerning, given how similar sentiments in the south have led to cancelling research with "women" or "females" in the grant. So short-sighted as research that includes and studies the "woke" often benefits all. Sorry, but research should strive to make the world better for everyone.

Fantastic event at Innovation Factory last night with the Synapse Life Science Consortium pitch competition. Exciting to see all the hard work by the teams, including some of our Biomedical Discovery and Commercialization Program students who helped with the pitches. Great work by all!
