A review of the fun but uneven Spiderman Brand New Day #spiderman #reviews

Review: Spiderman Brand New Day – sometimes fine is good enoughI like Tom Holland. I love him as Spiderman. I used to love the Marvel movies. Now? Not so much. I've struggled with a series of films that didn't know what they wanted to be, didn't trust their directors and couldn't exist without spending more time than not on telling me how they tied into other bits of the franchise. Worse still, but as people grew tired of them, they've indulged in nostalgia and I hate nostalgia.stewarthotston.com

1/6 here's the difference between a family run business and a corporation. I have long covid. I used to run a LOT. Races and everything. Now if I can walk for 15 minutes without crashing it's a big deal As part of my exercise I belongec to a local gym who worked with me on strength and conditioning

Today's writing includes the peterloo massacre, choir organisation, Bryan Adams and collective spellcasting. Being a writer is a lot of fun sometimes.

I've taken to writing (well sending messages really) to friends. It's not been a habit of mine but with being at home so much now I miss my peeps and so it feels like checking in more often is a thing I can do both for me but also to let them know I value them even if I don't see them as much

Superb review of The odyssey from Roseanna at Nerds of a Feather.

A review of the funny and brilliantly put together Perilous Times that asks us what we'd do if King Arthur came back and was, essentially Nigel Farage in a surcoat and mail. #booksky #reviews #fantasy #SFF

Review: Perilous TimesThomas D Lee's Perilous Times asks what if the knights of the round table actually came back when the island was in peril and what if, because Merlin was loose with his bargaining, the definition of peril has a pretty low threshold? What if the people in power kinda knew they could rely on these ancient knights who could die and die again were on call?stewarthotston.com

I really enjoyed this one - lovely understated story with solid gameplay from an indie studio punching above its weight. #reviews @lauramauro.bsky.social

I guess I better get to writing. I'm expecting a delivery of words but the truck driver's always late and they always deliver too many 'seems', 'almosts' and 'looked' and too few 'pleonasm', 'moist' and 'unctuous' And there's a run right now on 'hot takes' because of some chap called Nolan. Oh well

In my hubris I asked them to tie me to the mast and make me read every take on Nolan's The Odyssey. They, the wise, covered their eyes and moved on until it was safe to see once again.

Me reading every take in the alt text.

I love Nolan's The Odyssey in quite an uncomplicated way. I hear all the arguments about adaptations, fidelity and interpretations and I think to myself...who gives a fuck. Honestly. I have complex feelings about the film itself (see the link) but honestly most criticism I'm seeing is based on

I think, on balance, it's a good thing when your writing makes you cry. Now pass me some tissues.
