Looks like an old-fashioned variety hall bill from the 1950s or 1960s. Something for every taste. @talkingpicturestv.bsky.social

Just had confirmation of my second magazine acceptance this week: a look at the 50-year friendship / affair between Al Pacino and Diane Keaton. It should see print in September. #freelance #journalism

Currently working on a profile of #actor and comedian Stanley Baxter, scheduled to see print in September; a troubled and often tragic life, intertwined with great success on stage and #television. Meanwhile, Yours Retro #103 is out on 30 July, with my feature on #comedy duo Mike & Bernie Winters.

It’s no possible concern of mine and maybe I’m just getting too old for this current culture, but the phrases “secretive ceremony“ and “at Madison Square Garden“ don’t strike me as an obvious fit.

Research for another magazine commission, this time concerning Al Pacino’s relationship with Diane Keaton. No doubt I could construct an article out of online gossip, hearsay and other #journalists’ conjecturing, but I always prefer the actual thoughts and memories of those present in the narrative.

A shrewd historian, Enoch Powell once suggested -- with rare exceptions (early death or a well-timed exit) -- all political lives end in failure. Keir Starmer took that axiom further: his reign in Downing Street also began in failure.

Latest additions to the gallery: Barbara Windsor, David Naughton. Regarding the latter, I had the pleasure of being humorously barracked by American Werewolf in London director John Landis, who felt my fellow judge and I had been too “tough” choosing the winner of a #movie prize he was presenting.
