Lots of tech bros reportedly find Lord of the Rings inspiring. They all think they are Aragorn or Gandalf, so why do they act like Sauron, Saruman, or even Grima Wormtongue?

As you read about, watch, or in the worst case, flee from all these wildfires, remember that Donald Trump “thinks” gutting renewable energy and burning more fossil fuels instead is a good idea.

Nothing says “respect our troops” more than fudging and concealing casualty figures so that their sacrifices are obscured.

I fear we are about to see a pointless escalation in a pointless war.

Because when you make a huge mistake—as the strategic morons currently running US foreign policy have done repeatedly done—you don’t get out without paying a price.

Trump’s reckless war has left the United States with no options other than different versions of catastrophic failure.

Reupping this for the second time; too bad #trump didn’t read it before he started this pointless war. foreignpolicy.com/2022/08/29/w...

Nothing says “freedom” and “liberty” quite like mandatory testosterone tests for military personnel. How about a mandatory common sense test for Secretary of Nonsense Hegseth?

Of course, with his Iran War going disastrously and #Trump out of options, he’ll just change the subject by spewing lies about election fraud. Sadly, this tactic has worked all too well for him since 2016.

Hi! Real realist here, with long list of realist writings to my credit. You don’t have to agree with them, but I do want to say as clearly as I can that the #Trump administration is not following realist precepts, no matter how often they blather about power or “flexible realism” or Thucydides.

One of the many things that makes the war with Iran hard to end is that it is unclear who is in charge in Iran, and equally unclear what Trump’s latest demand/whim/lunacy/lie will be. Neither side can figure out what the other might actually want, or what it will accept AND abide by afterwards.

When the best thing you can say about a NATO summit is that it didn’t produce a major rupture, it’s not a sign of robust good health. Latest FP column here: foreignpolicy.com/2026/07/13/n...

I wish the subject were less grim, but grateful for the opportunity to talk with Tom Switzer and Josh Landis about the continuing debacle with Iran. www.youtube.com/live/2cA17Ad...
