After a few days of welcome relief, the August heat surges into Green Country this week. Scattered storm chances make a return Thursday into Friday.

It felt marvelous yet again this morning! It'll be a while before our morning temperatures dip quite this low again.

It's August 1st. College football will be played this month.

A cold front pushes across eastern Oklahoma tonight with a break in the heat wave and much better temperatures this weekend! A gusty north wind on Saturday will feel very refreshing! And drier air moving in behind the front also means much less of a heat index factor for both Saturday and Sunday.

A long-awaited cold front is on the way. Relief is ALMOST here! But we have to sweat out an excessively hot Friday first. If clouds thin out quickly enough, this will end up as one of our hottest days of the year so far with 100°+ temperatures and heat indices well over 110° toward 115°.

🌡️ 100° DAYS: On a yearly basis, western Oklahoma sees far more 100° days than eastern Oklahoma. That's happening this year too. Humidity is the big player. The tropical-like humidity in eastern OK leads to slightly "lower" temps but nasty heat indices. Drier air in western OK leads to hotter temps.

Almost there... almost there! Cold front arrives in eastern Oklahoma late Friday with better temperatures, lower humidity, and a fantastic north wind Saturday!

Today is our 4th straight 100°+ day in Tulsa. The last time we had 4 straight triple digit days was back in August 2023!

The weekend can't get here fast enough!

That weekend heat relief is getting closer and closer, but we're still gonna have to sweat A LOT before it gets here. 🫠 More sweltering weather this afternoon. A few lucky folks could get under some cooling pop-up downpours/storms this afternoon into this evening.

Well, about a week ago… this happened. 👀 Awards for weather coverage are an odd feeling. There’s no “celebrating” wildfires/tornadoes/etc, and I definitely had a smaller hand in this coverage than everyone else on our team. But seeing my name on one of these was still a pretty surreal moment.

Sweltering to start the week... but there are some signs of change on the horizon! A very weak boundary drifts into eastern OK by Wednesday. Areas east of Tulsa get a little dip in temps, but the metro still looks quite hot. But, still seeing encouraging signs of a better cool front this weekend!

Breaking News: It's HOT. Back to you. 🫠 The heat wave rolls on for the first half of the week. By the second half of the week, a very weak boundary and a few showers may start to trim temperatures back a *hair*. Things are looking better by the upcoming weekend though!

🚧 Owasso drivers, heads up on another highway ramp closure this week! The southbound US-169 on-ramp from 76th St North is closed this week (through 5 PM Friday). This will likely lead to more congestion at the 86th St North southbound on-ramp. Plan accordingly!

Today is our last day of pretty reasonable summer temperatures for a while. The heat dome comes back in full force this weekend through next week. 🌡️
