The DOJ had a reputation for not bringing a case unless they had an airtight case, which yielded a high conviction rate. Now that cases are brought for reasons other than justice, the well cultivated reputation is gone & judges are questioning the integrity of the prosecutors in vendetta cases.

That testimony could undercut a central part of the government’s case by suggesting the damage wasn’t caused by the defendant in the first place. Facts matter, especially when criminal charges are involved.
