Fulmar chicks have been hatching over the island in the last few weeks and you can just see this youngster peeking its head out. It’ll be early September before it fledges.

It might not look much but this young Guillemot (aged just 20-21 days old) has jumped off its cliff ledge home and is now following dad out 60 miles. The chick will rely on father for next 6-8 weeks. Remarkable start.

Guillemot (left) and Razorbill (right) are impressive birds and there breeding season is almost complete. They’ll not be back to breed until next April.
