Probably not gonna get to England to see her club at home this season so we drove to North Jersey to see Leeds play a shitty preseason match. And boy o boy was it shitty. A good reminder that football, while at times beautiful, isn't entertainment, it's suffering. As it should be.

Enjoy the whole of @travisshosa.bsky.social's Apostles from Stanchion Magazine Issue 23.

At the county fair last night, listening to a swing band, eating apple cider doughnuts, fawning over the adorable baby goats, playing 25cent bingo with corn kernels, holding hands with and kissing my wife.

Currently reading.

This afternoon, my oldest daughter was over, scrolling through the Stanchion site, telling me again of her favorite covers I've designed (Issue 23, Ladies, Irregulars) & talking with her step-mom about when next year she thinks I'll go insane from not having a creative outlet.

This is "Hallelujah Has Too Many Verses For Karaoke" by the great @jmgatford.bsky.social. It's one of the brand new pieces in Issue 20, the Best Of Stanchion Magazine's first 5 years.

2x Stanchion Magazine alum Anne Baldo just stopped me dead in my tracks on page 71 of her new novel: "If what we wanted could be reduced to easy math, like fractions, there would so rarely ever be a whole." I'm gonna need a moment.

My book was spotted on display at Pillow Cat Books in the East Village in NYC! They have a bookstore cat, too! Never gets old seeing this out in the wild 😻

Vagaries is a great word. Would make a cool lit mag name, too.

It truly never gets old seeing your book faced out in a bookstore. Especially when there's a 'book talker' beneath it. 😻

I guess one way to look at it is that in 6+ years, during a time in which "print is dead" & literally no one is reading books, I'll have managed to publish 55 books & lit mag issues, all written & designed by humans, all who were paid, and sold over 10,000 copies in total. That's pretty rad 😊

Holy shit, one of M. Kelleher's dream blurbers for her book Super Shorts: Toxic Ruminations just said yes hours after I sent the hopeful request! She's going to be so so so very happy! Which is what I aim for :)

That time I was in Rotterdam and saw a guy wearing my jersey...if I was a Brazilian footballer playing for Feyenoord.

The final Stanchion title of the year is Pantry, a chapbook of snack-sized essays about spices, food, recipes, menus & human emotion. Read excerpts & discover what's in your pantry & your heart: www.stanchionzine.com/product-page... [this cover is why I bought so much salt earlier this week]
