It's truly been a shock to see exactly how sycophantic, how amoral, how apathetic these court reporters are. How little they care about any other human life.

The attitude appears to be, this isn't like me, someone did this to me. I'm "healthy", I have "good genes", I'm "respectable" and "clean" and "strong" My family is a "good family", etc.

Because this is the norm in the profession, people who embrace the right wing framing will always come across as more reasonable to the average person in the profession.

We never see institutional headlines like, "MAGA influencers stage weird, coordinated freakout about movie casting to advance racist agenda". It's always presented as though there's a real issue or concern. Another: the war in Iran is not presented as illegal, war crimes, war of choice.

I suspect it's the same deal: you take the option that gives you the best chance to meaningfully change your circumstances. For almost everyone, 50 mil does that easily, and only people who already are extremely well off would bite at the billion. And compulsive gamblers, I suppose.

Everyone does this sometimes -- warps their understanding of what is true to confirm their beliefs. Fighting fascism and supremacy ("conservatism") means imperfectly seeking to align our beliefs with truth, and finding and fixing the places where we have embraced our beliefs over truth.

If there is another Republican administration, we have monumentally failed, and the consequences will be even more dire. This administration must be the last Republican administration ever. Yes, really.

An opportunistic sellout with no real beliefs and a willingness to endorse fascism to stay relevant? Seems perfectly crafted for this moment. I'm not sure he was well-suited to any previous time.
