Oh No! Oh Dear! Oh My! Games...person? Would love you to play Key Fairy: keyfairy.com.au Other games/art/blog-posts? yes: neighbourhoodsnake.com she/they

I do have to be honest, we planned to have spider-y things, we even have prototypes, but they actually never ended up making it into the game. The "spiders" button solves a problem that does not exist, and in many ways creates the impression of a more spidery world than truly exists...

I've long thought that switch games should come in little square ring boxes, with the little cushion

Cause no game is just *one thing*. But if we want to have genres at all, we might as well have interesting ones, that acknowledge trends in culture and design.

I don't mind there being a new name tbh. I think we can run the risk of over-generalise genres, so every game becomes an "action-adventure-exploration" something or other. Like, all genres are an attempt to categorise art, right. So it's impossible to construct a clean definition of a genre...

There are only 2 good genre names! 1. Platformer 2. Sandbox 3. Boomer Shooter All others are up for debate, so leave your suggestions!

So when they came to make a new rogue-like, they were able to draw from all these other games, like Into the Breach, which were descendents of Isaac! It all feeds into itself, and we grow together.

010

Yeah, absolutely! I feel like we've recently seen this with Mewgenics. The Binding of Isaac was a sort of foundational work to the modern rogue-like genre. And since its release we've seen people take the genre in all these crazy directions...

If you hide your ideas you are no longer participating in an artistic scene, you are leeching off of it. It's bad for the medium, and it's bad for your own art practice.

030

I think this is actually some developer's *fear*! Folks are afraid that if they put their idea out into the world, someone else will *steal it*. But, in my opinion, good art is in conversation with its inspiration. The medium grows because we all build on each other's work! ...

Artists in other mediums understand this, right? Painters develop their craft by returning to the same ideas, perfecting their techniques. Your dream game is meaningless if it doesn't exist.
