The only software developer in the world that enjoys going to the office everyday and actually meeting people.

I mean, its Nintendo who payed for it. Price for Switch 2 was most likely set long before the tarrifs were a thing. Why do gamers think they are entitled to it? But calling the companies greedy...

Lots of senior talent gone. I get that the financial savings are greater, as senior/principal developers make more money than junior/regular, but the brain drain is not the be underestimated. Seems like a really short sighted decision.

So it becomes a 1000$ theromstat?

I hope that both still have a job. And that the strikes result in something other than more layoffs. This industry is really depressing right now.

Return to Castle Wolfenstein turns 25 later this years, that would be the obvious pick. Plus there have been some movement with the trademark earlier this years, which is usually a pretty good indication.

After last week, it will surely be a awkward event.

000

We have to wait for more information where and how many layoffs there are (the fact is pretty much confirmed). Also Quakecon in a month will be a really awkward event. Also if id does a stream in the DLC release today, which I doubt.

000

Kinda hard to believe. Programmers are the expert that game development depends the most on. Firinr "almost all" of them would mean the studio is essentially closed. Even if id migrates to another tech, you still need coders. CDProject didn't fire the programmers when the went to UE5.

Breaking this a day before the DLC for Dark Ages was released was crule. And one month before QuakeCon... that will be a really awkward event.

But he is the one that steered that ship into the direction that made them lose tons of money. He is very much to blame for the situation.

Dark Ages sold abysmally. According to the estimate at Gamalytic, 2016 sold ~7,8 mio copies, Eternal ~6mio and DA 880 thousand.

000

How? He himself was affects by cut from Microsoft, canceling funding for his project, where he had to layoff people.

Dark Ages sold a lot less than 2016 and Doom.

000

Well, if a small studios dies, no one sees it.

000

I still remember similar things about Steam or Always-Online-Requirements. And today? No one cares about this. Some will make the cut, but most will just live with it. Big talk now, but no action in the long run.

Age of Empires 2, Quake 3 Arena, Die Siedler 2

Racing games are about driving in circles.
