I can’t attend, but I would be interested in what you feel thee community interests here are!

I really appreciate your difference of opinion!! But, as someone with stronger ties to ACS history, I find the changes superficial and dismissive of the legacy I value.

For typical purchases, we use a departmental credit card so our boss has visibility. For big ticket items (equipment, CRO work, custom synth., etc.), we have an internal PO tracker shared by Manufacturing & R&D and those are paid by Accounting by wire or check. Happy to chat more if it’s helpful

Small startup team here: For consumables, a google group email login for big vendors (Fisher Scientific, etc.) and individual accounts for niche workflows by their respective onwers (e.g. IDT for primers). Shopping occasionally for price or timeline, but often just reorders once established.

They seem to use station staffing as a proxy for this, but that is NOT a 1:1 mapping.

The whole checked service equivalence is even worse because they don’t allocate **any** scoring for how many of the line’s stations even HAVE checked luggage service! They could have it at two stations on the whole line and get full marks.

I definitely started as #1, in the combustion sense, then #1 in the ceramic materials sense, before becoming #5

“Just use noncombustible materials” is complicated in CA by the fact that timber is one of the most earthquake-safe building materials, and the cost of noncombustible, earthquake-safe alternatives like reinforced concrete and steel only pencil out for the largest projects.

This echos my microbio colleague’s work. We’re a BSL1 lab: non-pathogenic soil microbes. We request type strains from the USDA. Due to budget cuts (?), they’re <50% on sending the right microbe. I thought sequencing was overkill until my teammate found we’d be BSL2/3 if we kept the stuff we got

Lol, at the same time, Cole’s not wrong that my work is mostly analytical & biochemistry now 🙃

Two deprotonations diverged in the synthetic path And sorry I could not travel both And be one synthesis, telescoped. I added base, as selective as I could To the pot, where it stirred in the flask. …

Haha, I’m actually en route to our sales year kickoff in Montana, where I get to talk to a bunch of literal farmers (along with our sales staff, ops team, etc.)

I still work with metals sometimes, I swear! Just… usually as soil minerals or plant nutrients or formulation components. Check out this intense MLCT from an antioxidant overreducing another transition metal ingredient!

I work with plant people now, lol.

I’d bet money it’s an herbicide injury, likely a protoporphyrin oxidase inhibitor like fomesafen or butafenacil. That would shut off chlorpphyll production without interrupting carotenoid biosynthesis.

The friendships made while actually doing the work are better still!

Sadly they use “RMN” instead of “NMR”…

At least for now, on FB you can go to a “Feeds” tab and choose a category (Friends, Groups, etc.) that shows you a feed is only ~50% ads and is broken about ~10% of the time. I’m only on there for sharing cat pics with my fam and my neighborhood buy-nothing, and it works reasonably for those.
