She cared a lot about them when they were young, but she's written them off. Aemond for being crazy and kissing her, Aegon for being crazy and a terrible unmanageable king who she thinks is probably dead. In her mind they're both already dead, so she's trying to save the only one she can save.

If it helps, S2 is widely considered a low point and S3 has been (for me) the best this show has been so far. It's equivalent to like mid-tier GoT now for me. Not the absolute peaks of that show but the still-good seasons like S5

He did a great job, but thankfully he was apparently happy with the ending he got. It's mostly book-faithful and he likes the books, so he's cool with it.
