The difference in risk for COVID severity is negligible between over 75s (and over 70 for that matter) and over 80s. This likely due in large part aging immune system in which vax less effective plus comorbidities increasing risk of severity

They note that viral evolution has slowed with fewer milder waves. They discuss duration of vaccine efficacy too. Admittedly, last year had much fewer numbers of Covid relative to the other respiratory infections but personally I think it’s too early to lift your foot off the pedal for eligibility.
