Resharing one of my favorite images of my favorite great white shark of all time...the legendary Cal Ripfin/Shredder, since every week is shark week. This guy was a rock star at Guadalupe and was likely the most photographed shark on the planet for many years in the first decade of the 2000s.

Stormy is a female great white shark, who was first identified at Isla de Guadalupe in 2016. In my encounters with her she was very curious, which made for quite a few photo opportunities.

Screaming Mimi, an adult female great white shark, approaches from below with her pilot fish companions. Pilot fish can help clean sharks from parasitic copepods. In return, the smaller fish enjoy a safe haven from some predators in the shark's presence.

Johnny is a 4m (13') male great white shark, who was consistently documented for over a decade at Isla de Guadalupe.

Guadalupe great white shark Paul Walker (named after the late actor) makes a close pass in front of the camera. This individual was the shark we saw most frequently at Guadalupe during the final year (2021) that the island was open to diving.

Lucy is one of Guadalupe's most easily recognizable great white sharks, due to an injury that left her caudal fin (tail) permanently deformed. Despite fears that she would no longer be able to hunt when she first showed up with the injury back in 2007, she continued to thrive.

Nikki is a female great white shark who was first identified at Isla de Guadalupe in 2021, the final year the island was still open to divers.

Relic is a sub-adult female great white shark most easily recognized by a permanent notch in her caudal fin (tail) where the upper and lower lobes meet. This notch is not visible in this shot, due to how Relic is positioned.

Peggy Sue is a sub-adult female great white shark who was first identified at Isla de Guadalupe in 2021. She was named after my beautiful mom.❤️

Alba the Brave, a sub-adult female great white shark, was first identified at Isla de Guadalupe in 2016. She was only about 8' (2.5m) in length at the time. Hopefully she's continuing to flourish and has grown significantly by now.🤞

One of my favorite shots of the legendary Cal Ripfin/Shredder from 2008. While it might come as a surprise, many of the great white sharks I've encountered at Guadalupe (>200 individuals) are quite shy. As this image illustrates, Cal/Shredder was not one of the shy ones.

Screaming Mimi on the rise. This female great white shark is one of the more easily identified individuals at Guadalupe due to a noticeable spinal deformity in her pre-caudal region, which is not visible in this close up. Mimi was first documented at the island in 2016.

Miss Auburn, a female great white shark, sporting a bite wound on the top of her head from another white shark. Bite marks on Guadalupe's white shark are quite common and could be the result of agonistic behavior or mating.

Crazy Tryss, a sub-adult female great white shark, on an unusually "cloudy" day of the coast of Guadalupe. The waters off Guadalupe are typically clear and offer visibility sometimes over 30m (100'). However, the occasional moments of less than ideal viz do occur.

One of Guadalupe's OG great white sharks, Bite Face, all the way back in 2008. Bite Face earned his name by showing up routinely with bite marks from other sharks around his face. This is a rare shot of him without any major bites to his face.

Sunlight shining through the water's surface creates a prism/rainbow effect across the face of Luca Arnone, one of Isla de Guadalupe's male great white sharks.

The G.O.A.T. Cal Ripfin (aka Shredder) was one of the most photographed great white sharks on the planet in the first decade of the 2000s. His inquisitive nature presented divers with plenty of photo opportunities over the years, prior to his disappearance after 2011.
