Boy, am I going to miss Zane. He was an ante-upper and an envelope-pusher in all the best ways. He took everything exactly the right amount of seriously. His wit and wordplay was hard to keep pace with, but it was fun to try. He was a stellar journalist and an even better colleague.
Fucking awful. My heart goes out to all the reporters at The Oregonian, his family and partner. www.oregonlive.com/portland/202...
Really sad to learn this news over the weekend. Zane really cared about journalism and worked incredibly hard throughout his too short career.
Awful news this morning — one of Oregon's best reporters has passed away, all too young. His absence will be felt by the media and by the public at large. www.oregonlive.com/portland/202...

We live in a time when the federal government considers it taboo to name officers. I asked @sergioolmos.bsky.social about his team's decision to identify five Border Patrol officers who spent last year traveling the country and violently arresting people -- and the inevitable criticism they'd face.
