I can’t believe I need to say this but the answer to school shootings is not drones armed with chemical weapons. The answer is gun reform, basic security measures, and human beings who care and are trained to help.

That ends when Democrats have a majority.

Listening to Republican legislators in WI blame Dems for high property taxes when the last 8 state budgets have been drafted by them is wild. Your property taxes have gone up because Republicans refuse to properly fund schools and have starved local gov’ts of the resources they need.

When Democrats have control of the legislature, we will restore collective bargaining rights for all workers, regardless of the fate of this particular lawsuit.

Today, a group of right-wing judges overturned a prior decision that found Act 10, the bill that stripped bargaining rights from public employees, unconstitutional. Now, the issue will go to the WI Supreme Court.

In my first term as State Senator, Scott Walker and the Republican-controlled legislature took that right away from thousands of public employees, leading to burnout, staffing shortages, and lower wages across Wisconsin.

Every person should have the right to join with their coworkers in forming a union, and to bargain collectively for wages and working conditions.

I am proud to have authored a bill this session to enact a statewide moratorium on AI data centers in Wisconsin, alongside Senator Tim Carpenter and Representatives Darrin Madison, Francesca Hong, Supreme Moore Omokunde, Ryan Clancy, Angelina Cruz, and Angelito Tenorio.

Some called for an outright ban. The Planning and Zoning Committee agreed, unanimously sending the moratorium proposal to the full board next week. In June, the City of Janesville Council voted unanimously to block a proposed data center at the old GM site.

AI data centers are exceedingly unpopular here in Wisconsin, and last night the Town of Janesville showed us once again just how unpopular they are. In a town of less than 4,000 people, a huge crowd turned out for a Town Board meeting - overwhelmingly in favor of a data center moratorium.

It's time Wisconsin explored statewide regulation of mass surveillance. Our neighbors' civil rights are too important to let corporations and police departments have access to massive tranches of data we never consented to providing.

Communities across the country are fighting back, including right here in Wisconsin, by rejected, canceling, or deactivating contracts with Flock Safety, one of the primary purveyors of ALPR tech.

Anyone who drives in the range of these cameras has their license plate and other information stored for a period of time. This information is readily accessible to law enforcement, some of whom have abused their power by using this tech to spy on people.

Mass government surveillance is no longer the stuff of science fiction, it's already here - but it is not inevitable. Under the guise of stopping crime, fixed cameras have been installed in County Parks and other public places, equipped with Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) technology.

All this as over $4 trillion in tax cuts that mostly benefit the rich and corporations were created or extended by the same legislation. This is a disgrace. www.cbpp.org/blog/number-...

At least 1 million kids have lost federal food assistance since the passage of the President's signature legislation, the so-called "One Big Beautiful Bill." This decline occurred in just 19 states with publicly available data. Nationwide, it is likely that 1.5 million or more kids lost coverage.
